I have just completed another anime show, in my effort to educate myself / align myself with the younger video gamer (seriously, at my age you miss a lot of pop culture references).
I selected Sword Art Online because it's a video game themed show, based in a VR world where people are stuck, and dying in the game means dying in real life. That's the spiel, anyway. The show has 2 "seasons", but it's more like 4 halves, with each season containing 2 different gaming worlds.
The art style is amazing. Initially I didn't take to Kirito, the lead male character, but by the time the love interest comes along, I was heavily invested in the characters and the game world.
The game world...
It's amazing, a VR RPG that you'd genuinely want to spend time in.
Not sure what to say about the show without spoiling it.
It's awesome, I thoroughly enjoyed it, and it now sits at number 2 in my All Time Anime List, behind One-Punch Man. Admittedly it's currently a very short list, but I have already rewatched the first episode of the show and am planning on watching it all again before too long.
First though, we're going to give Fairy Tale a try.
