As I'm getting a FlipGrip this Xmas (it's here already, but thought I'd save it), I was keen to get a proper D-Pad sorted for the Switch left Joy-Con - I couldn't play Tate arcade games with the analogue stick, or the standard face buttons the Joy-Con offers.

There is an official D-Pad Joy-Con solution, but that's not wireless - and the FlipGrip requires wireless. After looking through my options, I ended up picking up D-Pad and shell mod kit.

Before, regular grey left Joy-Con.

And after, sexy D-Pad with translucent GameBoy era purple shell Smile

Modding wasn't that tricky. Took around half hour, including putting it back together at least twice (missed a screw the first time) and being cautious with the ribbons.

It looks really, really cool.

Biggest surprise was how it feels - it's GREAT. Genuinely surprised at the quality / feel of it. Nice rolling D-Pad, great shape and height to it. I'll need to grab something like a Street Fighter to really test it, but very pleased so far.

The kit also came with a right Joy-Con shell. I didn't have a "spare" to re-shell, but thought I'd use the included coloured buttons to spruce up the rather plain black default buttons.

The right Joy-Con was harder than the left, requiring a quite tricky ribbon cable be removed without much slack. Still, it's a pretty quick job.

Obviously I was never only going to have one with coloured buttons, so I ordered a bunch of both coloured ABXY and direction buttons and went to work on all of my Joy-Cons.

Very nice and far more "Nintendo" in appearance.

Very pleased all in all. 6 Joy-Cons modded, no fatalities Smile

And yes Will, if you ask nicely, we can sort yours out as some point Yahoo
