Long long long ago, in 2003, I was hooked on F-Zero GX. And I wasn't bad at it. Not great, but not bad. The game was always frustrating though, with the story mode being outright rigged with crazy AI not present in a "regular race" and a Rival who'd kick your arse even if you raced perfectly.

Loved the game, playing it a load, but I could never get over the dodgy AI. And as a result, I never completed the last cup, which opened up the legendary Arcade AX courses. I wanted them so badly, and I thought it a poor design decision to lock content so far behind a skill wall. I'm a pretty good games player, and to not be able to get to these fabled maps pissed me off.

Jump forward 13 years and I'm having a great time on Dolphin, emulating my old Gamecube games at some crazy resolutions. Dolphin also lets you put Action Replay and Gecko codes into it, which were "cheat devices" back in the day. Why I never done this in 2003 I don't know, I have an Action Replay disk which I used to boot import games. I guess "cheating" would never occur to me in 2003, and it's not something I'd do these days - except I really wanted to see the maps I'd always felt I missed out on. So one click later, and I've unlocked everything in the game Smile

Here's my first run through all the maps. Sorry for the compression on the video, I'm still working on that - I need to use a higher bitrate but even this quality and length gave me a video which was six and a half gig in size, taking ages to upload to YouTube.

This game is still amazing 13 years on.
