About these PS4k rumours....
Matt's picture
Wed 30th Mar, 2016 by Matt
It was rumoured and I thought. "No." Then Eurogamer confirmed some more rumours and I thought, "Nooo." And now it looks almost certainly like Sony is releasing a new Playstation early next year. And I'm left thinking.... well I'm not sure. The rumours and concensus seems to be this - a Playstation...

Sentinels of the Multiverse
Matt's picture
Fri 4th Mar, 2016 by Matt
Life is full of strange coincidences. I'd decided to cancel my pre-order for some X-Wing Wave 8 ships. It had been around 10 weeks since I had pre-ordered, when shipment was listed in December. Since last year, a lot has changed and I simply didn't get into the game as much as I imagined, mainly...

Kickstarting VENOM Assault
Matt's picture
Tue 1st Mar, 2016 by Matt
Last Kickstarter for a while, honest!  We're after some co-op games at home. I've Sentinels Of The Multiverse winging it's way to me over the next few days, and I'll write about that another day. Before deciding to give that a go though, I stumbled on VENOM Assault on Kickstarter. How could I not...

Whilst everyone else took away the C-3PO alternate art card on Sunday at Wayland games here is what I took away from the experience. I was playing with Bossk in the Houndstooth and I had 2 HWKs with Ion turrets, Dace Bonearm to add an extra damage but takes a stress and Palob who gets to take an...

1st Level - The Talos Principle - Ultrawide

Humble Monthly, I think? Last month or the month before? Month before more likely, pretty sure Alien Isolation was last month. Saving that one for when I have VR sorted - at current prices, give me a year for that! Back to The Talos Principle. Here's a quick run through the start of the game. After...

Ninja All Stars painted dice
Matt's picture
Sun 28th Feb, 2016 by Matt
Early days yet, and I'm unsure I'll commit to painting all the Ninja All Stars figures - there's a lot of them, I can't help feeling that the "core figures" will pale next to the unique clan figures they'll release soon (shame I missed the Kickstarter), and they also require an anime style that I'...

Super Monkey Ball 2 - 13 year old replays!!
Matt's picture
Thu 25th Feb, 2016 by Matt
Way way back in 2003 I was playing Super Monkey Ball 2, setting myself little targets for time or completing levels in an "interesting" manner. This was before YouTube and simply going online and copying other people's techniques; you'd have to find out what was possible in the game yourself. I...

KickStarting Fabulous Beasts boardgame
Matt's picture
Tue 23rd Feb, 2016 by Matt
I knew this wouldn't end well! A quick browse after commiting to Turtles and I've just dumped a load of money on Fabulous Beasts. It looks like a balancing game, using scan in codes on figures and pieces (ala Skylanders / Amiibos) and ties in with a tablet as you make a creature? Or something. I'm...

TMNT board game on KickStarter you say? I really shouldn't take a look... We love Turtles at home. They're everywhere. I've got the first 3 new TMNT & Batman team up comic books sat next to me as I type. I knew when the game came out and we saw it in the shop, I'd be pressured to get it by the...

Boardgames - Ninja All-Stars

Sun 21st Feb, 2016 by Matt
Saturday morning, a quick look in Dice Saloon after taking the kids to Ninja School. "Hi Matt, you're going to love this new game we've just got in, it's perfect for you!" Some £60 later and I'm walking out with Ninja All-Stars.... We're ninja crazy in the household (there are Turtles everywhere)...

Boardgames - King of Tokyo
Matt's picture
Sat 20th Feb, 2016 by Matt
Family Board Game Quest continues. I borrowed this off a mate at work - we'd played a single game a few years back, and I thought it may fit the bill. Rules are basic. Think Yahtzee, rolling your dice up to 3 times to get get a combination you want to work with. You battle Japanese style monsters,...

Desk setup February 2016
Matt's picture
Fri 19th Feb, 2016 by Matt
Looks like I'm finally done with my desk setup. Actually that's not true at all, I need to sort out the kids books holding up the side shelf. From a tech point of view though, I'm done. I had to get a new mouse mat, the 14 odd year old BF1942 mouse mat and my new Steelseries mouse did not agree....

Dolphin - SSX3
Matt's picture
Sun 14th Feb, 2016 by Matt
Ultrawide doesn't look good at all on it, but there's a 16:9 mode you can activate. Add to that a huge 6x resolution over the GameCube, 8xMSAA, and whatever filtering you can turn on, and SSX 3 looks very good. Amazing how such an old game is a joy to play. Flying down a mountain is.... simply joy...

Mark Of The Ninja - 1st level
Matt's picture
Fri 12th Feb, 2016 by Matt
I'm going to try something new, which may or may not evolve into a kind of First Level Review of whatever game I'm playing. Not sure I can be bothered with all that, so for now, here's a little video of the first level of Mark of the Ninja, which I picked up, surprise surprise in a Steam Sale. Or a...

Ultrawide F-Zero GX 1st time playing AX maps!
Matt's picture
Mon 8th Feb, 2016 by Matt
Long long long ago, in 2003, I was hooked on F-Zero GX. And I wasn't bad at it. Not great, but not bad. The game was always frustrating though, with the story mode being outright rigged with crazy AI not present in a "regular race" and a Rival who'd kick your arse even if you raced perfectly. Loved...

Civilization V - my little epic journey
Matt's picture
Mon 8th Feb, 2016 by Matt
It started with Humble Bundle which, at the second tier, contained Civilization 3, 4 and 5. With my reactions getting slower as I’m getting older, I really fancied a slow, turn based game. A quick Google later and I’m reading that Civ V needs all the expansion packs to be “really good”, and you...

Ultrawide Gamecube Dolphin Emulation Part 2
Matt's picture
Thu 4th Feb, 2016 by Matt
I decided to throw a few more games at Dolphin to see the ultrawide results. Life isn't perfect. There's sprite culling in Zelda, the bushes and trees literally vanish once they get beyond a certain point on the screen, which is a shame. As it's slow paced, this is one game I don't think I could...

I pretty much died from excitement when I discovered earlier this evening Dolphin, the awesome Gamecube (and Wii) emulator could do ultrawide! All you have to do is select Stretch To Screen for the resolution and turn on Widescreen hack. Amazing. 3D works great, just some stretching on 2D elements...

Adding an SSD for gaming?
Matt's picture
Sun 31st Jan, 2016 by Matt
I've been a strong advocate of SSD's for the OS for years now. I've still got all my SSD's around and they move from device to device as needs must - the server has a 120gb Crucial, there's a very very old 60gb in the server backup, a 240gb in the laptop and a nice new Samsung Evo 240gb in my...

Renegade Ops - ultrawide

Renegade Ops. I tried the demo on 360 on XBLA, and loved it. Pretty sure I didn't buy it for some daft reasons I can't remember.  I ended up grabbing it on Steam sometime afterwards instead, where it sat, unplayed, until a session a year or two ago where we had a quick 2 player drive around. It's...
