Space, The Final Frontier

For a change, we mainly played regular CTF tonight. The standout match was on CTF-CBP1-TechDream, which reminded me of Facing Worlds - two tower type bases and runways between them. In space Smile

The one with John's Pics

Yet more UT2004 on Friday night. There are rumours this upcoming Friday night we may branch out to Unreal Tournament 3.... but frankly I don't believe it *wink* Well, we may if I can resolve the fucking nonsense "Stun Server" clusterfuck Epic imposed on the game - last time we had to use Hamachi and that's just too much fucking around for a Drunk John on a Friday night.

UT2004 enhanced graphics, part 2

So with SweetFX, you can reload settings at any point - I had UT2004 running in a window on one monitor and SweetFX Configurator on the other monitor, and could alt-tab to change a setting, then reload it to see how it works in game. Awesome.

It can also do split screen to compare.

So this is where I'm mostly at right now. I've since lowered the bloom amount just under 10%.

UT2004 enhanced graphics, part 1

UT2004 was a great looking game back in the day, but it lacks the visual bells and whistles of modern graphic engines. It's a DX8 renderer; I believe the DX9 implementation was experimental and taken out of later patches of the game. So we're stuck with DX8.

That's not to say it doesn't look good. Still, my PC has far more grunt than is needed to run a 9 year game, so why not see what we can do with it?

UT2004 Team Kill On

Another Friday, another night of Unreal Drinks

This one started with the tantalising prospect of Andy, aka Cookstar, joining us for a game. The news came quite out of the blue, having last seen Andy in Unreal some 5 years ago. Alas the next 2 and a half hours were spent receiving texts about his "sodding disc drive not reading the disc!"

UT2004 wth Halo Vehicles

You spend quite a bit of time fucking on PC's. Even typing this article, this is my third attempt. I lost the first by pressing Backspace without being in the text box, which took the browser a page back and lost everything; the second time, the laptop lost internet connection when attaching an image and Java never recovered.

Single Node Onslaught

A mixed gametype evening had an interesting start when we warmed up on Deathmatch but the Stupid Weapons mutator didn't make it as far as John's PC, so he had no weapons....

Christmas slaughter

Friday was the last day at work for the Christmas break up so I had to work extra hard to get all the plastic processsed and sold before midday. Rewind 2 nights and I was at a concert that saw me get home at 1.30am and with the regular 5.30am alarm that wakes us up it meant I got approximately fuck all sleep.

Anyway that's the excuses for what followed out of the way Smile
